During initial setup, communication issues between the Pods and the Plume cloud may arise. Typically, this will present itself while trying to setup the first Pod. If you are getting a "Still looking for internet connection to Plume Pod" message for 10 minutes and the Pod's LED is slowly pulsing, your firewall may be the culprit.
Plume is designed to work in the home environment with consumer home networking equipment. Unlike network equipment designed for typical home use, advanced firewall configurations and enterprise grade equipment do not always follow a standard set of firewall rules for blocking and allowing communications in place. Sometimes ISPs will also change firewall settings without notice.
Refer to your firewall/router manufacturer's instructions to create rules to allow the type of traffic needed by Plume:
- ICMP packets (to verify network connectivity)
- NTP packets (to synchronize the time on the Pods with the cloud server)
- DNS packets
- Communication with the Plume cloud over port 443 (TCP)
